Keep It Light

Sir Steve Redgrave is fronting the Keep It Light Campaign, which is designed to promote healthy hydration habits by educating the nation to check the colour of their urine and understand what it indicates. The campaign has found 93% of office workers don’t check, or more worryingly, don’t know, what the colour indicates.

Dehydration is the number one cause of headaches and daytime fatigue in the UK and as the Keep It Light website points out ‘we all carry an early warning signal for dehydration, namely the colour of our urine.’ It is clear from the campaigns other findings that there is an acute lack of understanding about hydration in our daily lives.

A survey funded by the Juice Doctor, of which Steve Redgrave is a co-founder, contacted 1000 office workers and produced some worrying results. Although 60% of office workers believe that they are drinking enough water in the working day just 4% are getting the recommended daily 7 or more glasses a day. 75% of office workers admitted that there first response to a headache was to take a pill and not drink more water.

The campaign which is sponsored by the Juice Doctor has teamed up with some of the UK’s leading companies like Birds Eye, Plantronics, Talk Talk and the RNLI. It is clear that there is still a lack of understanding around what is really just simple biology. With a habitually dehydrated worker potentially losing up to one whole working day in lost concentration levels the cost benefits to businesses in promoting better hydration are all too clear.
