Office Water Coolers Waste Policy

By Peter Brooks

Our company waste policy is to minimise land fill, recycling materials and used equipment in line with UK legislation and best practice. The daily management of the office, and operational waste, is designed to ensure a clean and tidy workplace for maximum health, safety and environmental benefit.

There are several different types of waste, each type is dealt with differently:

Office and wash room waste bins
These are emptied daily into a used plastic cooler bag and put into the main general waste skip. This waste should not include any items that can be recycled such as used cups, ink cartridges or paper for secure disposal as part of our data protection obligation.

Warehouse and car park dustbins
These bins are emptied when full along with the used cooler bags put in the main general waste skip. This waste should not include any items that can be recycled such as used cups, ink cartridges or paper for secure disposal as part of our data protection obligation.

Save a Cup recycling box
This is used to store used polystyrene cups suitable for recycling with Save a Cup. This includes our own company water and hot drink cups as well as cups returned by our customers. These have to be bagged in the Save a Cup draw-string bags for them to be collected. Save a Cup will collect before the box is full.

Cardboard packaging waste
We will flat-pack waste cardboard and send it for recycling inline with the UK packaging waste legislation; this waste will not be disposed of in our general waste skip.

Used equipment
All our old water coolers will be recycled in line with the WEEE legislation and will not be disposed of in our general waste skip.

General waste skip
This will be used for all our general waste that can not be recycled, and does not need special disposal due to toxic material. It will be efficiently packed to ensure maximum capacity with minimum cost. The waste will need to be manually compacted each week.
